Volunteers are needed to help clean up a stretch of the Big Blue River in Beatrice next month. Phil Cook, one of the organizers, says they’ll start at eight AM on Saturday, September 19th at the West Court Street bridge.
Cook says they’ll be pulling out a lot of large objects and debris. Items include: tires, bath tubs, water heaters, animal carcasses and big logs. Cook says they plan to make it a full day riverfront festival, featuring a band and lunch.
The events will be held just south of Court Street near the bridge. Cook says those volunteering need to bring certain items, especially bring gloves, and wear old clothes and old shoes.
Mayor Dennis Schuster says he’ll be meeting with the city administrator and parks supervisor on some things that might be done from the normal operating budget along a stretch of the Big Blue.
Recently, a team of architects and planners visited Beatrice to help local residents address riverfront issues and how they connect with the downtown and overall economic development.
