The Nebraska defense has improved leaps and bounds from a year ago and it has the Husker coaches excited about what they saw after Thursday’s practice. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini was pleased with the way his defense has progressed from a mental standpoint.
Communication will be important for the Huskers’ defense as they moving into Big 12 play and the number of spread offenses they will face. Linebacker’s coach Mike Ekeler said the team is finally starting to talk to each other before the snap. He said last year there was none of that out there.
There are several players who are starting to draw more notice from the coaches. On the defensive line, it appears Jared Crick is the leading candidate to join Ndamukong Suh on the defensive line.
Pelini has also been pleased with redshirt freshmen linebacker Sean Fisher. Both Pelini and Ekeler comment on Fisher.
The Huskers hold their final two-a-day practice on Friday.
