Big Red Report–Quentin Castille cut

August 24, 2009 By Bill Pollock

What a way to debut the Big Red Report for 2009. A bombshell that was dropped on Husker fans this weekend, when head coach Bo Pelini announced that Quentin Castille, the team’s number one running back was cut from the team.

Pelini would not go into specifics. There was obviously a violation of team rules and he said it a couple of times that those rules are black and white and for him, the decision was easy. So for now, it appears the number two back behind Roy Helu Jr. is a true freshmen in Rex Burhead.

Burkhead, a 5’11 200 pounder from Plano, Texas, averaged nearly seven yards per carry his senior year. Also in the mix, Austin Jones, Lester Ward, Dontrayveous Robinson, and Collins Okafor, a true freshmen, two redshirt freshmen and a sophomore.

Sophomore wide receiver Marcus Mendoza has moved to running back, but Pelini said that move was already in place and did not play in the Castille decision. We’re less than two weeks away from the season opener September 5th against Florida Atlantic.
