The 3rd ranked Nebraska volleyball team scrimmaged in front of a sold out record crowd of 4,158 at the NU Coliseum, as the Reds swept the White squad, 4-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-15, 25-19) Saturday evening.The Reds were led by All-American Tara Mueller, who had a team-high 14 kills, 11 digs and a pair of service aces. Mueller, a junior outside hitter, was one of two Husker red squad members to post double-doubles, as All-American setter Sydney Anderson added a match-high 44 assists, 12 digs and three blocks.
Several players split time playing for both squads, including Lindsey Licht, who totaled 13 kills on .357 hittting and a pair of blocks and Gina Mancuso, who led all players with 15 kills and added 21 digs while chipping in three blocks.
Creighton’s “White” team defeated its “Blue” team in it’s scrimmage that marked the first competition held at D.J.
Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center. The “White’s” four wins were (9-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-12).
In all, 15 players participated in the match, including recently graduated seniors Amanda Cvejdlik, Korie Lebeda and Bianca Rivera. Cvejdlik played exclusively for the White and led all players with 18 kills. A first-team all-MVC pick as an outside hitter last season, Cvejdlik showed her versatility by playing middle blocker most of the match.
Of the current Bluejays, Karisa Almgren and Alicia Runge each combined for 12 kills while alternating teams throughout the match. Runge also had a match-best four aces. Nayka Benitez led all players with a combined 22 digs, while Laurel Sanford had seven blocks.
