CU’s Montogmery named scholar player of the week

August 26, 2009 By Bill Pollock

Creighton goalie Alicia Montgomery has been selected the initial first Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The sophomore earned Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, as the Creighton Women’s Soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Iowa State on Aug. 21 and posted a 2-0 victory at South Dakota State on Aug. 23.

Montgomery, who has a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average in undeclared field of study, had six saves in the scoreless draw with Iowa State. She followed with seven saves against South Dakota State in the triumph at Brookings. Montgomery has now made three starts in her two seasons with the Jays, collecting three shutouts in the process.

The Bluejays cracked the top 10 in the first NSCAA Regional Rankings.
