The Lincoln Saltdogs earned a playoff berth on Sunday, the final game of the second half, beating Sioux Falls 8-1. Lincoln, who finished tied in the second half North with Wichita will play them starting on Tuesday in Lincoln.
The Saltdogs scored early with two runs in the second inning. Argelis Nuñez walked, and Rafael Alvarez followed with a double. The throw to the infield got away for an error, scoring Nuñez and allowing Alvarez to reach third. Gavin Dickey then hit a sacrifice fly to put the Dogs ahead 2-0.
After Sioux Falls scored one in the bottom half of the inning, Lincoln responded with three in the third to go up 5-1. Justin Knoff allowed just the one run over five innings, Tim Brown pitched three scoreless innings of relief, and Chris Thompson pitched a perfect ninth to wrap up the game and the playoff berth.
