Nebraska’s largest reservoir enjoyed a busier-than-expected Labor Day weekend. Park superintendent Ty Grafford says Lake McConaughy in western Nebraska saw an estimated 29,300 people per day over the holiday weekend, which was more than anticipated.
Grafford says the weather was cool in the evenings and morning but warmed up enough in the afternoon for everyone to enjoy the lake. He says there were many positive comments about how much higher the water level is this year than last year. Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, which operates the lake, says Lake Mac is almost 16 feet higher than this time last year.
The lake is expected to decrease in volume slightly before the end of the summer irrigation season. Grafford says the Labor Day weekend at the lake went well with no major accidents.
