There were times on Saturday when the Husker defense looked pretty good. They limited dual threat quarterback Cody Leonard to just 22 yards rushing as they got to him four times for sacks. Then there were times, they looked young, giving up some big plays. Leonard passed for just 131 yards, but that was on 11 completions, almost 12 yards a catch. All in all, the defense is not where head coach Bo Pelini thought it would be after two games.
Quarterback Zac Lee was 27 of 35 for 340 yards and four touchdowns, he found 11 different receivers and the Huskers were 8 of 13 on third down conversions. Lee is looking more and more comfortable back there, but again Pelini would like to see more.
The offense got off to a quick start and that was important, because all last week the coaches talked about better tempo, getting out of the huddle to the line quicker and I think you saw a better job of that. Now, the real test is coming up. The Huskers first, true challenge of the season at #13 Virginia Tech.
