It was a clean sweep for Nebraska’s four Division II football schools. Nebraska-Omaha’s Pat Behrns headlines the past weekend’s action as he won his 150th game in the Mavericks shutout of Central Missouri.
Bryce Hawthorne gained 207 yards and three touchdowns as the Mavericks earned their second shutout in as many home games as they open MIAA play with a 38-0 win over Central Missouri. Behrns is tenth all-time in wins among active Division II coaches. He has earned 114 of his wins at the Mavericks’ head coach.
23rd ranked Wayne State jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and cruised to an easy 41-20 win over St. Cloud State. The win put the Wildcats at 3-0, first time they’ve done that since 1995. Wayne State outgained St. Cloud State 221 to -7 in that first quarter as senior quarterback Silas Fluellen was 13 for 13 with 144 yards passing in the first 15 minutes.
Chadron State was trailing 7-0 at halftime, but came storming out after the break and then holding off a late charge to beat Mesa State 24-21. The Eagles had just 45 net yards in the first half. In other RMAC play, The Nebraska-Kearney Lopers scored on their first five drives highlighted by a 99 yard touchdown pass from sophomore Jake Spitzlbert to Kyle Kaiser as they beat Western State 45-13.
