The Huskers are 19th in the AP Poll up from 22nd. They remain 18th in the coaches poll. This week, they travel to Virginia Tech 13th and 14th in the polls. It is the first road challenge of the season for the Huskers.
They’re going into an ACC stadium that will be packed, it will be loud and a hostile environment early on, but head coach Bo Pelini says those are all excuses, it comes down to one thing when playing on the road, and that’s execution.
The Hokies bounced back after an opening 34-24 loss to #4 Alabama by beating Marshall 52-10. Someone to keep an eye is on Va. Tech running back Ryan Williams. He had 16 carries for 162 yards and three scores in the Marshall win. He also caught a pass for 36 yards. He had two touchdowns and averaged 5.5 yards per carry against Alabama. His backup David Wilson is pretty good too. He rushed for 167 yards on 12 carries as he mopped stuff up in the second half last week. Linebacker Will Compton says it’s not anything special Virginia Tech does with their running game, they’re just very sound technically.
