This will be a good challenge this week for the Huskers defense as they prepare for Louisiana Lafayette. The Rajun Cajuns are 2-1 with their lone loss coming last week to #9 LSU, 31-3. The week before that, they beat Kansas State 17-15 down at their place. What’s impressive about their offense, is they have not allowed a sack all year. Head coach Carl Pelini explains why they are so good at protecting the quarterback.
Their quarterback Chris Masson has completed 56% of his passes and averages 209 yards per game with three touchdowns and three picks. Pelini said, he also knows how to use his legs. He’s second on the team in rushing.
A couple of other notes on the defense. Pelini said linebacker Blake Lawrence is doing fine. His ankle is not causing him any problems although it does get heavily taped. Pelini said he sees Barry Turner practicing with a lot more confidence, not favoring his sore ankle and says he’s doing better, saying quote, he looks fast as heck.
Pelini was pretty happy with the way Phillip Dillard play and says he’s looking even better in practice at that weak side linebacker position saying Dillard has really taken to that position. Pelini said he’s playing faster and is much surer of himself and likes the direction Dillard is heading.
