A routine traffic stop in western Nebraska turned into the seizure of nearly 15 pounds of crystal methamphetamine Monday. According to Keith County Attorney Blake Edwards, the Nebraska State Patrol’s Air Wing Division spotted a speeding vehicle in Keith County shortly after noon mountain time Monday.
A subsequent stop of the vehicle near the Roscoe interchange on I-80 led to a search. During the search, troopers found a hidden compartment under the rear seats which contained approximately 14.75 pounds of meth.
The driver, 58 year old Jose Buenrostro of Pamona, California, and a passenger, 39 year old Luis Trejo-Diaz of Ontario, California, were both arrested for possession with intent to distribute, a Class One Felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a Class Four Felony. The Class One Felony carries a possible 5 to 50 year sentence while the Class Four Felony carries a possible 0 to 5 year sentence. Buenrostro and Trejo-Diaz are both being held at the Keith County Jail.
