Former Husker Brian Duensing’s first game at Yankee Stadium didn’t go as he would have liked. Duensing gave up five runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings, while striking out three and walking one as he took the loss in game one of the Twins playoff series with the Yankees. 7-2 the final.
Duensing was 5-1 record with 2.73 ERA as a starter, but manager Ron Gardenhire wanted to use Duensing as a reliever, but after their 12 inning game with Detroit on Tuesday, Duensing was pressed into that role. It’s certainly not what the Twins wanted to do…throw a rookie starter in the first game at Yankee Stadium.
Joba Chamberlain, another former Huskers pitched to one batter in the 8th for the Yankees.
