The Defense Department is calling up more than 3400 soldiers of the Iowa Army National Guard to be called to duty in Afghanistan next year. Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson has no doubt that more solders will be needed to assist the Afghan National Security Forces.
“We need to continue to help them stand up more police as well as Military Persons so that they can secure themselves and provide their own security protection.”
Senator Nelson says there are issues in Afghanistan right now that need to be settled before a firm decision on how many troops will be needed. President Obama has received some heat over this “wait and see” attitude but Senator Nelson says it was a sound decision.
