Here’s a quick recap of some of the top stories of what’s happening this weekend in sports in Nebraska with links and more information. A little bit of everything from the Huskers taking on Baylor to the start of the high school football playoffs.
The Yankees tie up the Phillies with a 3-1 win last night in the World Series. Still no appearance yet for our hometown Husker from Lincoln Joba Chamberlain.
Tonight, the Husker volleyball team is in Austin to face the 2nd ranked Longhorns who are undefeated 17-0 on the year. Just up the road in Waco, we’ll find out who will QB the Husker offense. Bo Pelini not announcing until game time whether it will be Zac Lee or Cody Green who starts at quarterback tomorrow at Baylor.
The Nebraska-Kearney Lopers host the Colorado School of Mines in a RMAC Championship deciding game tomorrow at 1pm. The 8th-ranked Lopers have won eight in a row while the Orediggers have won seven straight. Head coach Darrel Morris is looking for big fan support this weekend. They’ll also have trick or treating for the little ones.
The UNK intramural department will host the State of Nebraska flag football tournament Saturday and Sunday at Foster Field. After more than a 10-years, UNK’s intramural department is bringing the tournament back in hopes of keeping it as a tradition. Collegiate teams from all over the state of Nebraska will compete. Tournament divisions will include men’s, women’s, and co-recreational.
Minor league hockey. The Omaha Lancers beat Team USA in league play last night 3-2 up in Ann Arbor Michigan. They’ll play them again tonight.
High school football playoffs kicked off last night in Classes C and D. They were some games cancelled last night that are being made up this afternoon. Classes A and B tonight. The Lincoln Journal Star does a great job of updating schedules and posting results.
