The Governor has released a list of $336 million dollars in cuts to deal with a budget crisis in the state. Dave Heineman is cutting in four areas. State Agencies are being told to save instead of spend, that is expected to make up for $65 million dollars. Transfers from other funds into the general fund equal $37 million dollars. Specific cuts including Medicaid Adjustments, money saved due to an excess of funds for the Beatrice State Developmental center, and cuts to education equal $154 million.
“We listened to leaders of the education community, they perferred that any adjustments be in the second year of the biennium budget, I agree. State aid for the next fiscal year will be the same as the current fiscal year.”
Across the board cuts to most state agencies, and cuts to the University of Nebraska will equal 80 million dollars.
