Senator John Harms of Scottsbluff is coming down hard on new Health and Human Services director Kerry Winterer and other department managers for not taking a pay cut. Harms says it would be following the Governor’s order to share in the sacrifice.
“And so I’m a little dissapointed on that aspect, because I think it doesn’t in any way reform send the right message to the people that might be furloughed or to the people whose families might be completely disrupted.”
More than 400 state workers could lose their jobs as the legislature attempts to make up for a 334-million dollar deficit. Several programs under HHS are exempt from across the board cuts, but some programs are seeing specific reductions.
