The Nebraska basketball team opens the 114th season in program history this weekend when they host South Carolina Upstate on Saturday with a tip off just after 7pm. The Creighton men’s basketball team will start on the road against a solid Atlantic-10 conference opponent.
The Huskers have won eight straight season openers. The Huskers also are looking for their 399th all-time win at the Devaney Center, where they have called home since the 1976-77 campaign. Nine Huskers could see their first action in a NU uniform on Saturday, including two juniors, a sophomore, three redshirt-freshmen and three freshmen. One Husker who will not be in uniform for the next 15 games is freshman Christian Standhardinger, who led Nebraska with 17.5 points to go with 7.0 rebounds over two exhibition games. Due to an NCAA ruling, the Munich, Germany, native will be forced to sit out 15 games, missing all of the non-conference games.
Creighton opens its 92nd season of basketball on Saturday when it faces No.21 Dayton. Creighton went 2-0 during the exhibition season, with a 94-69 victory over Missouri Western State on Nov. 4 and a 93-77 triumph over Nebraska-Omaha on the 8th. Dana Altman’s Bluejays return eight lettermen and three starters from last year¹s team that went 27-8 and made a 12th straight postseason appearance. Junior P’Allen Stinnett is the leading returning scorer at 12 and a half ppg. last season and is a preseason all-MVC pick for the second straight year.
