Both Doane and Bellevue fall to 0-2 in pool play with one match left for each of them today. #16 Bellevue lost in straight sets to #4 Concordia, California. Doane was beat in straight sets by Azusa Pacific.
Senior Rachel Muller led the Bruins with eight kills and six digs. Sophomore Maureen Wardian added seven kills on .294 hitting. Bellevue was led defensively by senior Gabby Pfannenstiel’s 10 digs. Freshman Jordan Broady registered 22 assists and seven digs in the loss.
Azusa Pacific’s Jill Baker and Amy Alkazin each posted double-figure kill marks as the Cougars cruised past Doane (Neb.) in straight sets, 25-23, 25-11, 25-18, to improve to 2-0 in Pool E. The loss drops Doane to 0-2. Baker posted a match-high 15 kills, but it was Alakazin’s 11-of-15 and .733 hitting percentage that paced the Cougars to victory. As a team, Azusa Pacific hit .349 and hit .500 in the third set. Raechel Jones had 27 assists and Sophie Burns also dished out 16. The defense was led by Robin Portela’s 22 digs. Doane’s Terra Andreasen had 10 kills.
In other volleyball news from Division-II, Nebraska-Kearney senior Nikki Scott was chosen as a 1st team All American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Scott was also the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year and academic player of the year.
