Two firefighters were hurt battling a housefire in Grand Island. The fire was reported around 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
A woman and her son were in the house and had a wood fire burning in the fireplace, which apparently covered the smell of the house being on fire. Smoke was seen pouring from the home’s crawl space.
Investigators say the fire in the fireplace does not appear to have caused the blaze, which left the house a total loss. The cause hasn’t yet been pinpointed.
The two firefighters who were injured are recovering. One sprained an ankle, the other suffered a separated shoulder.
