Emergency workers scrambled to evacuate homes and businesses this morning, but they were successful in getting residents out of in the way in south Norfolk as firefighters battled a huge propane tank fire.
First responders were faced with a 30,000 gallon propane tank near the former Protient plant. It all started around seven Thursday morning.
Authorities were going door to door to carry out a mandatory evacuation of every building within a one-mile radius of the fire. Evacuees faced bitter wind chills dipping well below zero. They were directed to go to the city auditorium. No injuries were reported.
