The Husker volleyball team used balanced offense and strong defense to sweep Iowa State 3-0 in the semifinals of the Omaha Regional at Qwest Center. This is the second time in two meetings the 10th seeded Huskers have swept the 7th seeded Cyclones this season. Now the Huskers will face #2 Texas, a team that has handled NU quite easily this season.
Game scores were 11,19 and 22 as NU moves to 26-6 on the year. NU moves on to the Regional Final for an NCAA-leading sixth straight season. The match against Texas will start at 8 p.m. (Central) and tickets are still available for that match by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting ticketmaster.com. The match will also be televised on ESPNU.
Nebraska had at least nine kills. Nebraska hit .324 as a team, topping .300 for the second straight time against as strong Iowa State defense. Lindsey Licht paced NU with 10 kills on 21 swings, while Kori Cooper, Brooke Delano and Hannah Werth all added nine kills. Talk about strong defense, the Huskers held Iowa State to a season-low .096 attack percentage, as the Huskers recorded eight blocks and 51 digs. Iowa State also committed 22 errors.
