Teen pot smoking appears to be on the rise nationally. Bryan LGH Independence Center Director Jerome Barry tells us that he agrees with the survey showing the nation needs to implement a comprehensive, evidence based approach to preventing drug abuse.
“Meth addicts, cocaine addicts, name any illegal drug you can possibly imagine and most all of them will tell you they didn’t start with that drug, they usually started with alcohol or marijuana.”
Barry tells us that adolescents may also be mislead because the negative consequences take longer to see. But Barry says that doesn’t mean marijuana use is not dangerous. He says it leads to more of a gradual deterioration over time of their memory,of their concentration of their motivation and of their career aspirations.
