Nebraska U.S. Senator Ben Nelsons stands by his actions in negotiating exemptions for Nebraska from future Medicaid expansions as part of the Senate health care bill. Some are calling it the ‘Cornhusker Kickback,’ but Nelson calls it something different.
“I’m prepared to ask that the so called Heineman exemption be removed from the amendment in conference if that’s what the Governor desires, but i did not seek something special for the state, I sought to get relief for all states for this unfunded and underfunded federal mandate.”
Nelson says he and the Governor are not having a spat over the issue, but he doesn’t feel the onus is on him to call Governor Heineman to discuss the issue because the phone answers on both ends.
