State Auditor Mike Foley says he has uncovered a major contract violation after wrapping up an audit of the State Department of Corrections. Foley says a Psychiatrist who used to for the Department, was directly involved in steering a contract to a company that his wife owns. He says several people at the Department of Corrections knew about the wrongdoing, but chose to keep quiet. There were other problems at the D-O-C. Foley says there was about five million dollars worth of overtime accounting errors. Another problem deals with a D-O-C employee working as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska.
“and his secretary at the Department of Corrections was actually doing work for him while he was earning additional pay for being an adjunct professor.”
Those issues along with other accounting issues are being turned over to the Nebraska Accounting and Disclosure commission.
