Kelsey Griffin did it again. Her 25 points and career high 16 rebounds helped the Nebraska women’s basketball team to a 94-50 road win at Vermont. It was Griffin’s fifth double-double of the season. The Huskers moved to 13-0 and now get ready for Big 12 play.
The Big 12 player of the week continued her hot shooting as Griffin was 10 of 16 from the floor and 5 for 5 at the free throw line. She was 8 of 12 in the first half as the Huskers jumped out to a 42-29 lead over the Catamounts.
The Huskers used a 10-2 run to finish the first half, then picked right back up in the second, starting the half with a 16-2 surge in the first five minutes. Senior Kala Kuhlman came up big with 13 points tying her career high as she played a big hand in those runs. Yvonne Turner added 11 points and five assists and Cory Montgomery had 10 to put four Huskers in double figures.
As much focus that has been put on Griffin and the offense, it’s been NU’s defense that has been solid all season. They held Vermont to 28% shooting. This came with Vermont just turning the ball over eight times, so they protected the ball and had shots, but the Catamounts were well defended and nothing would seem to fall for the home team.
The Huskers head to Iowa State to begin Big 12 play as the only undefeated team in the conference. Tip off is 7pm on Saturday night.
