The Drake Bulldogs make the trip down I-80 to Omaha tonight to face the Creighton Bluejays who may not have lived up to expectations yet in the first 14 games of the season, but are not very friendly to their guests at Qwest Center.
Drake is in the midst of a five game losing streak at 5-10on the season and is winless in three Missouri Valley Conference at 0-3. Preseason all-Valley pick Josh Young tops the team with 12.1 points per game, and is one of four players with 23 or more three-point baskets on the season.
Second on Drake in scoring is Arkansas State transfer Ryan Wedel. Wedel averages 11.4 points per game and leads the team with 23 steals, and 30 three-point baskets.
Creighton meanwhile enters the game 6-8 on the season, including a 5-1 mark at Qwest Center Omaha. The Bluejays are 1-2 in MVC play with one of those losses coming to conference favorite Northern Iowa. It’s been a slow start for CU that has returned eight players and three starters from last year’s team that went 27-8 and made a 12th straight postseason appearance. Junior center Kenny Lawson Jr. leads the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Tip-off is set for just after 7pm.
