Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman and the state’s other constitutional officers are offering to have their salaries frozen for the next term to help save money. Heineman tells us, they’ve sent a letter to the Legislature requesting the change.
“we’re willing to take a four year pay freeze in order to lead by example, I think that’s what the citizens of Nebraska expect us to do and I was pleased all the constitutional officers were willing to work with me on this issue.”
The salaries of the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor and State Treasurer are set by the Unicameral and can only be adjusted for a full term. The freeze would begin in 2011.
