Many schools in the eastern third of Nebraska are closed as another winter storm takes aim on the area. In Omaha, 5 to 6 inches of snow is expected. Most of the snow will fall Wednesday afternoon and as it begins to taper off this evening, there is more bad news… strong winds. National Weather Service Meteorologist Becky Kern says those windy conditions will stick around for a while. ”
“The winds are going to stay up on Thursday so there will be a lot of blowing and drifting left on Thursday.”
And there is more insult to injury. Those winds will continue to blow and the thermometer will drop into the deep freeze. Kern says we will highs in the single digits and those strong winds add only misery.
“By Friday morning, we are looking at 30 to 40-below wind chill so it is going to be dangerous out there.”
Cold temperatures will remain with us through Saturday but then a warm-up, of sorts, is expected on Sunday with highs in the 20’s.
