Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman delivered his State of the State Address Thursday, warning that economic hardship is not over, but at the same time praising Senators for work to cut more than $300 million dollars from the budget in a Special Session two months ago. Senator Jeremy Nordquist says the Governor isn’t telling the whole story.
“My concern that new projections are showing our budget very well headed to a $1 Billion shortfall and there were no details provided by the Governor, he hasn’t suggested any new cuts to the appropriations committee.”
Governor Heineman responded.
“I guess maybe because Senator Nordquist is a junior Senator and maybe he doesn’t understand the process, the fact of the matter is we have a forecasting board meeting on February 26th, until they change the official forecast we don’t really have an opportunity to make budget adjustments.”
The Governor also says he hasn’t seen any major recommendations for cuts from Senator Nordquist who sits on the Appropriations Committee.
