The fight over the death penalty in the legislature is again bringing back memories for Speaker Mike Flood of Norfolk. He was nearby when a bank in his hometown and several were shot and killed.
“I continue to talk about it as I represent Madison county, but in 2002, I watched it, I saw the gunsmoke coming out of that bank on that day, I talked to a customer who was shot in the back as she ran to her car. three men walked into a bank, five people were killed, less than two minutes.”
Senator Brenda Council of Omaha says the death penalty is costly and sometimes the wrong person is put to death. She wants the death penalty replaced with life imprisonment.
