Chadron State sweeps UNK for first time

January 27, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Both Chadron State College basketball teams pulled off exciting one point wins over in state rival Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday night in Chadron to give the Eagles their first sweep of the Lopers since the schools introduced women’s basketball in the early 1970s.

The women’s game ended in dramatic fashion when Kaitlin Petri, who ironically is from Kearney, went the length of the court and hit a 12 footer with less than a second to give Chadron State a 61-60 win. Then, in the men’s game Shaw Buckner hit two free throws with 5.5 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 65-64 win over the Lopers.
