Yesterday on our network reports, I mentioned the inside play of Nebraska being important in their matchup with #10 K-State. Redshirt freshmen center Jorge Brian Diaz led the Huskers with 13 points but it wasn’t enough as the Huskers were unable to dig themselves out of a 14 point half time deficit and lost 76-57 to the Wildcats. Dennis Clemente had a game high 23 points for K-State. Ryan Anderson had 10 points…just missing out on 1,000 career points. His first basket Saturday at Kansas will get him to the milestone.
K-State shot 50% in the first half in building a 42-28 lead at the break, but Nebraska came out and in less than two minutes has the lead down to seven. However, Clemente sparked the Wildcats with three, three-pointer as NU was shut down over the next four-plus minutes as K-State built a 53-27 lead with just under 15 minutes to play.
I also come away from this game a little more impressed with K-State then I did before the game. I thought they handled NU’s defense pretty well and hit some big outside shots. The Huskers gave up their fourth highest point total of the season.
The Huskers travel to KU Saturday where the Jayhawks have the nation’s longest current home winning streak at 54.
