Cornhuskers Finish Road Trip In Columbia

February 13, 2010 By LCI Admin

The two game round trip for the undefeated and number three Nebraska women’s basketball team comes to a close this afternoon in Columbia, Missouri as they take on the Mizzou Tigers. The Cornhuskers will be taking on a Tiger team that has won just one conference game this season.

Nebraska is coming off a win Wednesday at Kansas, but it was not an easy one. With eight minutes left in the game, the Huskers would be down by five. But in a span of about two minutes, Nebraska would get three straight defensive stops and turn that deficit into a two point lead.

Mizzou is back at home after a dreaful road trip to Manhattan on Wednesday. The Tigers and the Wildcats would combine for the lowest scoring game in Big 12 history as Kansas State beat Mizzou 37-33. The Tigers are now 11-12 on the season and 1-9 in Big 12 conference play. Mizzou is also on a five game losing streak.

Nebraska does have maybe a bit of revenge on their minds going into today’s game. Last season, the Cornhuskers would lose a close game 67-66 at the Mizzou Arena. This snapped Nebraska’s winning streak of five straight wins in Columbia.

Leading the way for Nebraska is senior forward Kelsey Griffin who is averaging over 19 points per game. Griffin has been the catalyst for this team as they were below 500 without her last season. She missed all of last season due to a foot injury that did require surgery.

The Cornhuskers are now just one of two undefeated teams in the nation. They are also just the second team in Big 12 history to open 9-0 in conference. A win this afternoon would give them 23 and tie the school record for most wins in a season.

These two teams will meet again in two weeks when the Tigers will be at the Devaney Center for a 7:05 contest.

The Cornhuskers take on the Tigers at 1:00 this afternoon.
