Blizzard conditions lead to death of UNL student

February 15, 2010 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

Whiteout icy conditions are blamed for a number of accidents occurring in Lancaster County yesterday. Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says an over twenty car pileup on the interstate between Waverly and Omaha killed 20 year old UNL student Morgan Klein from Omaha.

“When deputies got there, there were a lot of people out of their vehicles, they didn’t know if they should stay in their vehicles, but then they risk their vehicle getting struck by other vehicles, so they were out of their vehicles.  Some of these folks had minor injuries and were bleeding so things looked very chaotic at the time.”

I-80 was shut down for a time yesterday. Dozens of cars were involved in other accidents as well around the county including a 12 car accident on Highway 34 between Lincoln and Eagle that sent four people to the hospital. Near Beatrice, authorities say, a 14-vehicle pileup on state Highway four sent six people to the hospital.
