Seniors Tara Oltman and Renae Sinkler have been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. Oltman appeared in five of Creighton’s six games, earning two wins and a save, while Sinkler smashed four home runs and owned a 1.308 slugging percentage in the season’s first weekend.
Oltman, the three-time MVC Pitcher of the Year, was 2-2 with one save against the tough competition in Tempe, Arizona. One of her wins was a three-hit win over 15th-ranked Northwestern. For the week, the Cortland, Neb., native tossed three complete games, including a shutout of Wisconsin. She tossed 25.1 innings allowed 17 hits and seven earned runs for a 1.93 ERA, striking out 30.
Sinkler, the reigning MVC Player of the Year, hit four home runs and also led the Jays with five hits, five runs, six RBI, 17 total bases and six walks in CU’s six games. She hit .385 (5-for-13), her on-base percentage was .600 and her slugging percentage was 1.308. The Lincoln, Neb., native connected for a two-run home run against Notre Dame on Friday, then hit three home runs on Saturday, a pair against Wisconsin and one against Oregon State.
