Omaha city officials have determined what protocol to use in selecting the new representative of District 7 on the Omaha City Council. Council President Gary Gernandt says anyone interested in the position must first send to the city clerk a cover letter, resume and a petition that includes fifty signatures from those who live in the district. That will then be verified by the election commissioner.
All city council members will review each application and each member will then send their three or four top selections to Gernandt by March 23rd. Finalists will be interview at a council public hearing on April 6th and the council will then vote on a successor April 13th. The new council member will be sworn in on April 20th.
The council is selecting a replacement for Chuck Sigerson who resigned after suffering a stroke and heart attack last year.
