The Nebraska wrestling squad managed just two wins against second ranked Iowa State, but one of those wins came to 174 pound senior Stephen Dwyer who joins an elite group of Husker wrestlers.
Dwyer picked up his 100th career win by beating #20 Duke Burk 11-2. Dwyer is 100-33 for his career and moved to 22-3 for the season. The Huskers lost 34-7 and senior Craig Brester suffered his first loss of the season. Brester lost to Iowa State’s Jake Varner at 197 pounds losing 6-4 in overtime. It was Brester’s first loss of the year, dropping his record to 25-1.
In Dwyer’s win, he put points on the board quickly with a takedown just 16 seconds into the match and raced to a 7-1 lead by the end of two periods. In control, the senior amassed nearly 4 1/2 minutes of riding time and gained four points in the third period to earn the bonus-point win, his 12th of the season.
