No pressure of playing on Senior Night for the third ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team, although it wasn’t just the seniors who came up big in NU’s 77-52 dominating win over the Kansas Jayhawks.
All-America candidate Kelsey Griffin led NU once again with 18 points and coming up just one rebound short of another double-double while playing just 22 minutes. Junior guard Dominique Kelley added 16 points and Freshman point guard Lindsey Moore added 14 points, three assists and three steals.
The Huskers led by as many as 30 in the second half. There were more than 12,000 fans there to see the game, the seventh straight crowd of more than 10,000 fans. That’s great to see the support for this team that moves to 28-0 and 15-0 in conference play. NU wraps up the regular season Saturday at K-State.
The Huskers shot 58% in the first half and built the lead up to 20 a couple of different times. One of the things I haven’t really mentioned this year was just how good the Huskers are at hitting free throws. Their ability to get to the free throw line and makes those shots is big, especially in Big 12 tournament play and the NCAA tournament.
NU hit 24 of 30 at the line while KU made just nine trips and made only four of them. That 15 point swing is the difference in the final margin.
