Eastern Nebraska flooding

March 11, 2010 By Karla James

Ice jams continue to create flood concerns on several Nebraska rivers and minor flooding is reported. National Weather Service Meteorologist Van DeWold says the area is extremely lucky as most of the heavy rain will not target the river area. There is flooding along the Platte and Elkhorn Rivers however the majority of the rain will pass eastern Nebraska.

The Elkhorn River is causing problems near North Bend, Ashland, West Point and Fremont.

Highway 32 is closed near West Point because of flooding and water neared a levy late last night. Also, along the Platte River near Big Island Road, an evacuation of several homes took place due to water over the roadway. Also, residents living near Vencil’s Island in Sarpy County were asked to leave due to flooding Wednesday.
