T.J. Roemmich drove a bases loaded hit through the right side in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Bluejays (13-8, 3-3 MVC) salvaged game three of their series with Indiana State (17-8, 3-3 MVC) with a 7-6 victory, Sunday afternoon at the CU Sports Complex.
Roemmich finished the day with two hits and the walk-off single, to post his third consecutive two-hit ball game. The hit came after a disastrous ninth inning for the Jays, in which the Sycamores scored three runs, courtesy of Ben Ferrell to tie the game.
Trailing 6-3 in the final frame, the Sycamores loaded the bases on Creighton reliever Matt Patterson with a single and two walks. After Jack VanLeur came on to strike out Phil Liniger for the second out, Ferrell laced a double in the right-center gap to clear the bases, and forced an extra Bluejay at-bat.
Creighton trailed for much of the game, as Sycamore starter Jason Van Skike held the Jays hitless until the fifth inning. Indiana State took the first two games of this home opener that were played at Rosenblatt Stadium and Friday and Saturday.
