The Chadron State softball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to blow open a close game en route to its 11-3 non-conference win over Black Hills State Tuesday afternoon in Chadron. Black Hills State won the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, 4-1.
In the second game, CSC took an early lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third and they ended the game by scoring seven in the sixth. In the third, Jamie Mazankowski hit a three-run homer to left field. Cassie Humphrey earned the win in the circle. The senior from Chadron struck out seven and allowed four hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.
In the first game, Black Hills State sophomore pitcher Katie Wagner allowed just three hits and struck out nine to lead the Yellow Jackets to their 4-1 victory. Stephanie Hillman hit a home run in the fourth inning but she was the only CSC base runner to get past second.
The Eagles, now 13-16 overall, will return to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference when they play a 4-game series at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, beginning Friday.
