Johanns supports extension of benefits, not red ink

April 15, 2010 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

U.S. Senator Mike JohannsU.S. Senator Mike Johanns says he agrees benefits for the unemployed need to continue, but he disagrees on how we should pay for them.

“I put myself in the camp of people who want those benefits to continue.  I also believe those benefits need to be offset. We just continue here to drive our budget into deeper and deeper trouble the red ink is just spread as far as the eye can see.”

Johanns says there have been numerous other proposals to pay for the benefit extensions, but they keep getting shot down mostly on party lines.
