There is another scam circulating in eastern Nebraska. Scam artists are going door to door selling magazine subscriptions. They claim they are students at Metropolitan Community College and they are selling magazines for a fundraiser. Metro spokesman Mark Sundermeier says the college is not involved in magazine sales.
Sundermeier says the students tell residents they are selling the magazines for a school fundraiser. The magazines will not be sent to the resident but to a hospital. The sale is considered a “donation”. Since the buyer never sees the product, they do not realize they have been a victim of a scam. The scam artist never sends in the magazine subscription and pockets the money.
There have been reports of this scam in Omaha and Fremont. Sundermeier says anyone approached by someone claiming to have ties to Metro and are selling magazines don’t buy them and call the police.
