The Creighton softball team split a doubleheader with Kansas on a record setting day for the Lady Bluejays. After winning game one 8-0, CU was shocked by the Jayhawks in the second game who were down to their last strike before rallying to win 6-5.
In the first game, Tara Oltman threw her second straight shutout to get the win. CU opened up a 2-0 lead with four unearned runs in the fourth. MVC player of the week Amy Baker doubled twice, walked and drove in two runs. In the second game, Oltman pitched the final 2.2 innings trying to save the win, but with a 3-2 count and two outs, Allie Clark hit a two run homer for KU.
In the second game, Renae Sinkler hit her second grand slam of her career. Sinkler’s 41 career homers extend her school record and are six behind Illinois State’s Amber Smith for a share of the Valley career mark. Oltman established the MVC record for innings pitched on a Marissa Ingle chopper back to Oltman with two away in the sixth. She has now thrown 933.1 innings in her career, surpassing the former MVC mark owned by Indiana State’s Darcy Wood (931.2)
