Nebraska Game and Parks spokesman Greg Wagner says spring turkey hunting season gets underway Saturday. Hunters should have pretty good luck.
“We have over 36-thousand hunters that will be in the fields opening Nebraska’s spring shotgun wild turkey hunting season and a record number of tom turkey’s are gong to greet them.”
Wagner says there will be a lot of orange out in rural areas Saturday. Hunters shouldn’t have a problem finding birds.
“We have five-times as many turkeys as we had eight year’s ago in Nebraska. We have tens-of-thousands of birds out there plus we have birds in all 93 Nebraska counties.”
Wagner says turkey season also brings money into the state of Nebraska.
“We have people from a lot of different states that will be coming in to participate in the hunt and their money will turn over several times in these small rural communities so turkey hunting in the spring is a big deal in Nebraska.”
Millions of dollars are spent each year by out-of-state hunters on hotels, restaurants, permits and other hunting items.
