The Albuquerque Isotopes showed why they are the league’s best hitting team. After scoring just one run in the first two games, Albuquerque exploded for four home runs to blow past the Omaha Royals 11-5 in front of 6,438 fans on Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park.
Prentice Redman hit three home runs off Royals starter, Gaby Hernandez, and knocked in six runs in the first five innings of the game. Jay Gibbons hit the other homer and had 4 RBIs.
The Royals actually led this game 3-0 on RBI hits from Kila Ka’aihue, David Lough, and Jordan Parraz in the top of the first. But Hernandez got touched for four runs in the bottom of the first, including a three-run homer from Redman, who was Hernandez’ teammate last year in Tacoma.
Hernandez (1-1), who did not allow a hit in six innings in his last start, allowed ten runs on ten hits, including all four homers to suffer his first defeat of the season.
The Royals wrap up their four-game series with the Isotopes on Monday afternoon in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Omaha righthander Phillip Humber (0-1), pitches against Isotopes Scott Elbert (0-0). First pitch is at 1:05 CDT.
