Nebraska-Omaha teammates Alli Hukill and Beth Haley have been named MIAA Softball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 13-18. Haley earns her second award of the season, while Hukill picks up her first honor of 2010.
Hukill hit six home runs during the MIAA Northern Crossover to earn all-tournament MVP honors. For the week, she batted .500 (11-for-22) with 17 RBIs and a 1.409 slugging percentage. The junior from Omaha, Neb., hit safely in every game last week and had at least one home run in every game of the crossover. She had two against No. 4 Emporia State. Hukill, who only had 10 career homers entering the tournament, hit a grand slam Sunday against Central Missouri. She had five RBIs in the game Friday against ESU with two- and three-run blasts.
Haley threw a no-hitter Tuesday against Northwest Missouri and ended the week 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA. The junior from Highland, Ind., went the complete seven innings in game one against the Bearcats, striking out four. Then, she recorded the final out in the second game to get a save. In the MIAA Northern Crossover, Haley pitched two complete-game wins. Saturday against SBU, she allowed two hits in a shutout, and Sunday she allowed four hits and a run to UCM. For the week, Haley struck out 14, allowed just six hits and walked one in 17 1/3 innings pitched.
