UNO wins MIAA women’s golf championship

April 21, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Danielle Suponchick shot a final-round 79 to earn individual medalist honors and lead Nebraska-Omaha to the 2010 MIAA Women’s Golf Championship Tuesday at Tiffany Greens Golf Club. The Mavericks finished with a two-round score of 627 (+51) to win the title by 43 strokes over runner-up Truman.

Suponchick’s 79 gave her a 36-hole total of 154 (+10) to finish two shots ahead of Missouri Western’s Natalie Bird and Truman’s Jen Lawson, who tied for second place. Nebraska-Omaha teammates Erin Ommen and Rebecca Pollock tied for fourth place with scores of 157 (+13) to complete the five-member all-tournament team.

Also announced on Tuesday was the 2010 All-MIAA Women’s Golf Team, selected by league coaches. Bird, Suponchick and Lawson earned all-conference honors along with Nebraska-Omaha’s Abbey Weddle and Truman’s Krystal Limsiaco. Ommen was named the 2010 MIAA Player of the Year, Bird was honored as freshman of the year and Nebraska-Omaha’s Tim Nelson was selected as coach of the year.

Truman carded a 36-hole total of 670 (+94) to finish second, followed by Missouri Western in third (676, +100), Fort Hays State in fourth (712, +136) and Northwest Missouri in fifth (747, +171).
