Now that two major anti-abortion laws have passed the state of Nebraska, we asked Senator Ben Nelson if he thought the Federal Government would follow in the state’s footsteps. Nelson says he thinks the laws should be handled by the states.
“I think it’s possible that people might try to push that at the federal level, but I truly believe that it’s a state based issue, it’s very likely that laws will spring up in other states.”
One bill calls for the mental health of the patient getting an abortion to be evaluated and for the doctor to inform her of all the risks of the procedure. The second bill prohibits any abortion if the fetus is older than 20 weeks.
